It's Lab.

I love lab.

Although it's tiring, and it all seems endless, the camaraderie and the feeling of accomplishment make it all worthwhile.

The conversations are heartfelt, and the emotions are true. You learn most about people by what they do, not what they say. In the intense physical fatigue and mental stress, how can anyone not bare true? It's funny that shared pain is what brings people closest together.

"What do you do?" "What were you?" "What do you want to be?" Conversations in boredom lead to true interest. "Who ARE you?"

Drumbeats sound in the distant field. This is the symbol of our shared pride. "I'm glad to be here, sharing helltime with you guys." I feel there is no other place I would rather be.

Needless to say, I have found new med-friends.

Lab is all I had expected and much more. There are infinitely more learnings, both onn and off topic. My lab is incomplete though... What is laboratory without YOU guys?

What I miss most is getting to know you.
What I miss most is our lab together.

Kwek-Kwek!!

I know you guys are probably sick of my long essays... but I can't help but write them... They're nice... you can learn something from them... why not give them a shot? Converse with me. Tell me what you think. We can improve ourselves... in the pop culture sense... by conversing. Anyway... more pop culture criticism...

I had a sudden craving for kwek kwek today. It had been more than a year since I had taken a bite of the heart attack inducing treat, and today seemed the perfect day to break the quail egg fast. Daydreaming of quail eggs covered in batter, fried until golden brown, and made to swim in what seems like a truckload of sweet and spicy sauce, I realized that I had arrived at the street food store that I used to frequent. My mouth began to water as I neared the mountain of fried goodies that gleamed like gold behind it's glass case. I just had to have some. As I savored the cholesterol balls, I watched around at the dozens of other people who were sharing my kwek-kwek moment with me. Students, workers, old men who seemed to all wear brown caps, they were all so fascinating to watch. I felt so strangely euphoric as I slurped the sauce and bit bits off the kwek-kwek. I even supplemented my kwek-kwek with a glass of sago gulaman, to go with the "working class snack" feel of the experience. What a wonderful way to spend merienda time right? I used to think so, but not anymore.

I looked around and noticed a sign hanging under the kwek-kwek store's ceiling. "We use only farm fresh eggs and purified drinking water." This although seemingly only a health precaution, struck me hard. My eating those fried eggs is a hypocrisy. It is true that It was I myself who felt the quail egg craving, and it is also true that as long as I want to eat it, I have every right to do so. No one can really stop me from eating kwek-kwek, and it is hunger, a primal, universal, transcendent feeling that caused me to eat those eggs. The problem lay though in the fact that while I was eating the treat closely associated to students on a budget, I was too busy thinking of how I fit in with the other kwek-kwek eating people. It isn't about the eggs anymore. I was too busy thinking about looking like one of the working class to truly say that I was there for hunger's sake alone, vis-a-vis acting like someone I am not. All this for simple amusement. It wasn't about the universal aspect of hunger; it was the case of a middle class boy treating life like a theatre class. The paradigm is offensive. I am as Jane Goodall to chimps, instead of me truly feeling what it is to be a chimp. The arguments for this point are vague. One can say I sympathise, or I was there to observe. Observation is merely detachment from the feeling of true living. Sympathy is simply saying "I can understand how you feel." We were given the innate trait to feel what others feel. It would be a waste not to use it.

We take the kwek-kwek culture for granted. I remember that in my high school, a group of students began selling gourmet kwek-kwek, using only fresh, and high class ingredients. Fresh quail eggs in sweet batter, rolled in Japanese bread crumbs, and fried to a golden brown in olive oil. They used chinese style sweet and sour sauce as the sarsa, and they served it with stylized bamboo skewers as to mimic the original apparatus with which you eat the delicacy. Kwek-kwek has then become a luxury product. It has become a mockery of the very essence of kwek-kwek's popularity. It's affordability is it's strongest point. It is also kwek-kwek's richness, that allows you to be full even after just a few pieces. Kwek-kwek is about utility. It symbolises all that is held to virtue in the third world archipelago we call home. It symbolizes the struggle of the working class, and all we do is make expensive versions of it to sell to our fellows in the higher classes so we can boast that we have had a taste of the daily life of the working class.

We have become surveyors of society. We are detached from the daily livings of the majority. We have been taught to observe and learn. What better way is there to learn that a solution is acidic than to dip your finger into the beaker, feeling the protein degradation in your finger for yourself. At least sincerely feel for those we observe. They are not merely monkeys. In truth, we are the monkeys trapped in glass cages, observing the people who pass us by. The next time you eat those orange colored treats, remember to feel. Our knowledge isn't simply a storehouse to be filled. You fill containers in order to use their contents. It's time we broke free of our cages, and evolved to humanity as well. It's all about splagchnizomai.

Make Babies

Facebook's Widgets are getting weird.
Some stranger just asked me if I wanted to make babies with him.
I know it's probably not what it sounds like, but I can't help but laugh at it and keep on thinking that unless he's got a proper uterus, I won't even consider it.

Introducing: Maki Baby

I have my own pug now! Wooohooh!!!!
His name is Maki (Baby!) I know it's like super uber gay to own a pug, much more name it Maki, but hell! I want a pug, and I got one. Maki (Baby!)

He comes from Hanscamille kennel. We had to go all the way to Fairview to get the little guy :). He has all his official papers from PCCI and everything! Oh, and he has had all the initial shots and dewormings done on him already. Maki (Baby!)

I Love my Pug.

The Search for Kristina Turner

She's been unheard from for 18 months. We're getting really worried, and we're starting to get extremely paranoid. Where are you Tin?

We tried calling her house. "She's not here right now."
We tried tracking her online activity. She hasn't been online since January 2007.
We searched her name in all possible search engines. We ended up in a porn site >.<
WE WANT TO KNOW IF YOU'RE OKAY. JUST SHOW UP ALREADY! PLEASE!!!
We have been searching for months across the internet.
If we don't find signs of you in 3 days, we will personally march to your home and demand to know where you are... Even if your lolo shoots at us >.<

React on Poverty

Read the really short articles (it all amounts to less than a page) and react on the reality of poverty, and what we as human beings have to do about it.
It's about humanity. Apathy and fear are never proper excuses.

New Pet (Soon)

I really want a new house pet. I want something that will follow me around instead of me chasing after it. You can get a cat to follow you around, but it has to trust ONLY YOU to do that... Mom and I decided to get a dog, para less hassle for me since my life can only get more complex from now on. We decided to get a.... PUG! Yay!!!! I've always wanted a pug!

Ate Gayl says that pugs stink, but I'm willing to bathe it twice a day if I have to :). They're supposedly really friendly and human dependent dogs, so yay!!! My only problem with pugs is that owning a pug seems so... gay. THEY'RE CUTE THOUGH!!!!! PUG!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!

To Feel

I was once told that no matter how much pain we feel at the point of loss, there is always an equal amount of consolation that is returned. I held on to this belief, thinking that the world does balance out suffering with solace, loss with gain. It was a grand idea, that there was some higher order that would ensure that life's trials are never for naught, and that in every loss there is a gain.
I was sure that meeting her was not simply an ordinary circumstance. What could it be but fate that would have two people who knew nothing of each others existence to meet at a glance. Her toes pointed to the ground, her arms embracing air. A leap to reach the sun, then a dizzying turn. In a second, she looked my way, and my feet froze to the ground. It felt as if a taste of destiny. A dazzling dance, as if parallel to the longing beat of a nervous heart, and as if the air she breathed pulled my feet to move as hers. It was the music that bound our souls together.
It was then as her palm denounced their strength, outstretched as if surrendering to heaven that she found her lasting peace. The warmth had far from gone, and only a shell had remained. One would think that the love would die when the object of devotion perished. Love is not beauty. Beauty withers, and poets merely have to walk away, but devotion to love transcends objectivity. What was once directed upon an entity is now directed upon a void. You continue, and it is not reciprocation, but emptiness that is returned to you.
Others would opt to forget and walk away. They rationalize that once the object of devotion is gone, the devotion must cease as well. They find peace only after they give release.  I refuse to surrender love, that is to admit that I had never truly loved at all. I would have rather to endure the void I am to face each day as I open my eyes. I would have rather to continue to bleed, to feel the life long torment of never finding love returned to me, but knowing that I had truly loved. All this knowing in fact that I love nothing. I do not love a memory, or a marble stone upon hallowed ground. I had lost what I had loved. It was gone. I may find no consolation for my pain. I continue to believe though in what had been said to me. If I find no solace now, then maybe at the final point in life where I resign my soul as well, I can gain greatest peace.

I Used to Own Cats

not just any kind of cat.

I used to own Siamese cats.

That was then...

Needless to say that after almost a month of suffering

we had decided to let Kismet just sleep the pain away.

Don't laugh at my pain.

I never asked for you to understand.

I understood you through reason and inanity.

The least you can do is respect that.

The greatest irony in layman's terms is that bad things happen to good entities.

Most of those who suffer don't deserve it.

It's all action and consequence.

All suffering is consequence.

This is a world where stones do fall from heaven.

Fault

Gaiel, Truth is never simply what we believe. Reality is the sea in which we merely swim. We do not dare to think possible our ability to grasp it's entirety but rather we must realize that merely a part of it's entity relates with us. We are but dots on the existential line. We in truth know nothing except what is revealed to us. We are not the god-sent beings that we believe we are.
It is the greatest irony then, that the law which we most believe will balance our being is that which precisely roots our pain in existence. Righteousness and sin are unfortunately not the standards by how reality moves. In depth, there is no black and white, but merely action and consequence. The world does not favor the true. It is not a being of will. It is a force subject to the actions and consequences of those who dwell within itself. How are we to truly say we will if we are limited, judged even at the point of existence? Consequence is begotten of action. It is begotten of fault. There is no true sense of blame in a random world.

Laundromat

I walked into the laundromat today.

I wore nothing but myself.

My clothes spun with soap bubbles in the periphery.

The dirt falling to drown into the water.

Cloth to dry upon a heated pool.

This futile attempt at renewal.

Folded and neatly tucked into a plastic bag.

My time has come.

I clamber unto the washing machine.

Pour the powder to cleanse me.

Roll me to scrape my filth away.

Shake my sins into the water.

Heat me to breathe anew.

Fold me to fit the mould of perfect youth.

I am renewed.

Only for one use.

Not truly new.

Shuffle Thing (Oropel, 2008)

Rules :
Put your itunes on shuffle, but instead of just putting the name of the song, write the first sentence of the song as a response to the questions.

These were my first words:
Lalalalalalalalala lalalalalalala lalalalalalalalala lalalalalalalala

--wek.

This is what my mom said when she gave birth to me:
There's another world inside of me that you may never see. There are secrets in this life that I can hide.

--it makes sense since in reality, I don't know much about mis madre.

This is what I say every morning when I wake up:
Do that shit, do that shit, do it. Do that shit, do that shit, do it.

--magaral ka na mic! hahahhhahaha

These are the first words I spoke to my true love:

Yeah 'lil mama, you lookin' good, I see yah wanna play with a player from the 'hood.

--omfg... horney much (as in Karen Horney)

If someone says this, it makes me mad:

If it weren't for your maturity, none of this would have happened.

--I guess pwede...

This is my battle cry:
Halikinu, kinikina; Hali hali hali kinu; Halikinu Kinikinikina.

--Grabe, Atenista talaga.

This is my outlook on life:
Let me be with you. Our eyes meet, our hands touch, and suddenly there's magic.

--still looking for that one true chinita. yuck... hahhaahaha

This is my message to the world:
This bottle is bringing me down; no comfort for me in this town.

--this would have been true 4 years ago... not now.

This always cheers me up:
Mom made beans for dinner, you know I ate 'em all.

--BEANS!!!! hahahaha WTF.

This is what my last boyfriend/girlfriend said to break up with me:
I used to be alive; and so beautiful inside.

--ouch.

People think I'm crazy if I say this:
I'm not sure of anyone; but I've got plans. I'm not asking for anything, but sure I could use a hand.

--paranoia.... crazy... pwede...

I'd say this to break up with someone:

I'm finding my way back to sanity again, although I don't know what to do when I get there.

--awww....

I said this in my wedding vows:
When it's over; that's the time I'll fall in love again.

--bastos...

People said this when I got married:
Buried deep as you can dig inside yourself, covered with a perfect shell.

--why do I have all these hidden meaning things...

This is what I said when I was proposed too:
There's a song that's inside of my soul; its the one that I've tried to write over and over again.

--I would love to be proposed to this way... (torpe..)

I said this when I was fired from/quit my job:
Look at this photograph; every time I do it makes me laugh. How did our eyes get so red?

--memories.. awww...

My last words:
Hello, good morning, how ya do?
What makes your rising sun so new?
I could use a fresh beginning too
All of my regrets are nothing new.

--ouch part 2.... sana rin diba...

Today, I am the Fool.

April Fools Day is when you're supposed to make fools of other people. I know that most people our age think it's a pseudo-holiday for kids and old retirees who have nothing better to do with their lives than put whoopie cushions on the wicker rocking chairs of their beloved wife of 45 years. The reality is though that although we deny it, we do think about making mischief on this day of days. It's a cultural imperative to want to trick someone on April Fools. Since we as studious young adults restrain ourselves from such childish behaviour, all that repressed mischief builds up in the atmosphere and creates havoc on it's own. Call it paranormal psychology or psychological directive of the collective unconscious; whatever the reason, this day is a day to look out for. Something is bound to go awry. I on my part can only share what I have experienced on this day. It seems like an everyday occurrence, but the circumstances are beyond reason.
I took my final oral exam today for Philosophy class. I checked my cellphone and my planner, and they both stated that my appointment was at 3:00 p.m. at De la Costa consultation room 6. I am sure that I had written down the time and place properly on my planner and phone, as I did so a few seconds after signing up for the exam. I woke up at 7 and decided to leave the house at 10. I arrived in Ateneo at 11:00. I returned my library books, which I calculated would have an overdue fine of Php755. I calculated properly. The librarian charged Php550. I asked her to check again. Then she corrected herself. It was Php575. I didn't bother objecting again lest she was to raise the fine by virtue of her annoyance. This is the same librarian I asked for "Pinoy Hotness" from. At 11:30, I checked De la Costa for my schedule, just to make sure, and I discovered that my schedule wasn't at 3:00 p.m., it was at 10:00 a.m. I had missed my oral exam. That meant I would get an F for 30% of my Philo grade. I was silently hysterical. I sat on the outside of the room door, with an idiotic look on my face, and multiple gargantuan explosions in my psyche. The door opened, and I saw my professor sitting on his chair staring at me. He motioned me to move towards him. I did so. He asked me what happened. I answered that I had honestly thought that my exam would be at 3. He then looked at the time and motioned me to sit on the chair in front of his. "Shall we begin?" His words were saving grace to me.
I finished my oral exams, and was now running as far away as I could from De la Costa Hall. I then took a tricycle to the pet store along Katipunan to buy my cat's special kibble for kidney problems. The saleslady then said they had none of such a specialized kind of food. She then asked me if I had kidney problems. I will leave you to imagine my annoyed and extremely sarcastic response. I then took a cab to Tiendesitas. I was sure that they would have the specialized kibble. I looked around for an hour, and found that only one shop carried the special cat food that I needed. Unfortunately for me, that certain store is closed on Tuesdays. Annoyed and extremely tired, I was forced to walk to my mother's new office in Ortigas Center. She then instructed me to buy 5 cans of the cat food, and she gave me the money for it. She said she was sure that the pet shop in Robinson's Galleria had the kibble. I walked around Galleria twice, and I asked 5 different guards. There is no pet store in Galleria. My mother is seeing pet stores. They haunt her at night. Again annoyed, I walked to SM Megamall. It was there that I was able to buy the cat food. Finally. I then took a taxi to Ayala, thinking to maybe stop for a drink in Coffee Bean Greenbelt before heading home. The taxi magically stopped a few hundred meters away from Greenbelt. It had a flat tire, which is entirely not my fault. It stopped right in front of the Mc Donald's at Paseo Square along Paseo de Roxas Ave. I got off and decided to take my lunch in Mc Donald's. The server looked familiar, so I in my boldness asked if I had seen her before. She used to work in Mc Donald's Glorietta, and she remembered me from 4 years ago. Our long term memories are good. She was a trainee back then, and I bought a Coke float from her. I was her first customer. Needless to say, we chatted.
After lunch, I took another taxi to the house. Then I walked in my room and saw my cousin topless, using my computer. His perspiration beading it's way onto the keyboard. I now have to burn my laptop. Now, here I am, writing this. I just realized something; that last semester's last day was an odd experience as well. Maybe it's that, or maybe it is psychological directive of the collective unconscious. Maybe it's coincidence. I could never be sure.

Nostalgia stuff

Toni got me all nostalgic and stuff... This is from 3  and a half years ago... I remember this was after the USTET, and I applied for BS PSYCH and AB PHILO 'coz I was still paranoid that I wouldn't pass any of my entrance examinations except maybe for UST 2nd choice... Then I imagined I would take Philo and then take my masteral and doctorate in Madrid or Salamanca... then I would teach in Spain. That was the dream du jour. Beth wanted to be a hotel manager. Where is Beth anyway? Hahahaha nostalgia... coolness...
