Philippine stuff...

GDP (PPP) 2005 estimate

- Total $451 billion (25th)

- Per capita $4,923 (112nd)

GDP (nominal) 2005 estimate

- Total $98,731 billion (51st)

- Per capita $1,168 (120th)

HDI (2006) 0.763 (medium) (84th) [Human Development Index, indicator of General Welfare]

We're actually the 11th most livable (according to general welfare) in Asia... and we're still complaining. Sabagay... check the inequality of allocation of resources...

one other thing... there are approx. 41,000 people per square mile in the city of Manila... I don't see that many people! Thats because our district is the least populated... 19,000 per square mile. I STILL dont see THAT MANY people.

Professoring...

God! Summer classes have begun, and already I feel like quitting the whole thing altogether.

3 new classes

3 new professors

one helluva field day everyday.

Ec102- Introduction to Economics, Agrarian Reform, and Taxation.

Mr. Edsel Tupaz

M-F 730-900 CTC203

Oh my GOD! People, search Edsel Tupaz on Yahoo or whatever search engine you prefer, and you will see why I am ECSTATIC to have this person as my professor. He's about 30-ish, and my initial reaction to him was, "Thea & Fi would loove this guy." It seems that his appearance mirrors his academic excellence as well... check him out. He corrects himself a lot though... funny actually. He also uses the oddest examples imaginable, while teaching us modified fun concepts, like how New Zealand trades sheep for microchips, and how if we are to lessen the number of spas in the Philippines, and force all the therapists and others to work in nata de coco factories, the Philippines would make more money. He rocks! One really "you had to be there" moment was when he explained 'Consumer Surplus' as 'I'm happy I got a discount!'

Ch7- General Chemistry

Ms. Natasha Tehran

M-F 9-1030 C109

She's cool... lots of quizzes though... about 2 per period. :p she explains things REALLY WELL, and she goes by it step by annoying step. Much better than my first chem teacher.

Fil14- Panitikan ng Pilipinas

We had to read a 30 page Ifugao epic (Aliguyon) in a day. Yipee. Now I have to read that other Ilocano epic in a day too. Yipee. As we have to read 'Ang Mahal na Passion ni JesuCristong Panginoon Natin' by Gaspar Aquino de Belen, maybe that in a day too? Yipee... I haven't even memorized my prof's name...

Deadliest Shooting in U.S. History, and Why the Middle Class is Not Deserved

"The Deadliest Shooting in U.S. History" said the headlines on MSNBC the day that Cho Seung-Hui decided that he was to shoot himself, and thirty two other people in Virginia Tech University. Right after he shot two people in the college dormitory that day, and right before he shot thirty others, he proceeded initially to mail a package to the New York headquarters of NBC news. The package was described as "a multimedia manifesto" which included a written statement, a CD of quicktime videos, and a few pictures. From the written statement alone, one could already tell that Cho was deeply disturbed. The whole package was a long rant pure of angst and hatred, but not a shred of academic logic to be found. A disturbing point though is that since the package contained premade/prerecorded material, he had planned the whole thing for a considerable amount of time. His classmates defined him as "never talking" and confessed that he had antisocial tendencies in school. According to Cho's english professor, his works were of a macabre degree, and tackled truly disturbing aspects of human depravity. She was worried that his works mirrored his true emotions, as they should, so she offered to bring him to counselling. He refused. We see then the final creciendo of his angry, depraved, self indulged world. He treated those he shot as cattle. Murder is one of the most indifferent, inhuman crimes ever commited, and the fact that he was able to shoot thirty three people only tells us that to him, humanity has lost it's importance. What caused this lack of faith in humanity? Is it american society? A severe overload of hormones? What makes a human being lose sense of what makes him human?

Note though... shouldn't the civil war be the deadliest shooting in U.S. history :) or at least something like that? Maybe Iraq should be the deadliest shooting in U.S. history. It's their fault anyway.

Side thought... I was passing by the Sta. Cruz-Quiapo-Carriedo area, and I decided to observe the people around. Realize that most Filipinos belong to this sector of society. Realize that most in this sector of society still think that Erap was pro masses because he protected the weak in old badly made Filipino action films. Realize that the only boxer these people know is Manny Pacquiao. Realize that the only sports these people know is Billiards, Basketball, and Boxing. Realize that they still stick to their hedonistic lifestyles, which shows a sense of moral depravity. The Philippines doesn't deserve it's middle class.

Thoughts on a Past Year (R09)

Okay, so my english class (R09) just finished our modern adaptation of Bill Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." I watch waaaay too much theatre. It was a magnificent performance, and I couldn't be prouder of them all. If any of the R09 people are reading, I know I've been a loner-ish oddball warfreak pain in the ass, but believe me, I enjoyed every moment in our english classes. (forget my cuts) I may not have shown it enough, but I have grown to know each of you by name, and I truly found spending those last days with you a truly blissful experience. (again forget my cuts) I'm sorry I didn't open up, as you guys didn't open up to me either, and I guess the whole year was one big misunderstanding after another. I am actually a sweet, sensitive, heartwarming person who is quite sociable. I just didn't feel like being one at 730 in the morning. Anyway... It's mostly my fault. I'm sorry for the lit shouting fiasco, the times I let any of you guys down, and for seeming like such a tightassed snob. I truly care for you guys though... I guess I'll be here if anyone needs me (which is doubtful) but anyway... thanks for a really sublime year. I LOVED it. Thanks especially to certain people like Xans Bernie Kat Glee who actually bothered to listen to my inconsistent ramblings, and the people who became my groupmates, and to all of you guys... first year was more than just comfortable... thanks for that...

Just Thinking... on 300

300 the movie... Leonidas... real... 300 Spartans... real... "Hot Gates"... real... (Battle of Thermopylae... Thermos- heat Pylos- Passageway)... coooool...

Lysistrata

Watched a play, Lysistrata (original play by Aristophanes) last friday... The play itself was about the Peloponnesian war, and how an Athenian woman came up with the idea of witholding sex from their husbands until the war stopped. Her idea spread throughout Greece, and eventually even Corinth and Sparta joined in the "no sex until no war" thing. Anyway... the play I watched though was a modern adaptation... Atenean women witholding sex from their Atenean boy friends until they stop the whole DLSU AdMU rivalry... They supposedly hid themselves inside the Manuel Pangilinan Center, and refused their boylets happy time, unles they make up with the greens... It had a VERY sexual undertone, with the characters playing it out beautifully. It was at a high point of satire, unlike most who overdo the sexuality and turn proper plays into sleaze fests. memorable lines? "Wait! Wait! That La Sallian has a knife! Wait, that's not a knife... that's an erection!" Needless to say, it was hilarious, but unsuitable for kiddies... The parents who watched it... You should have seen their faces. Pity it was only a one night show... the'res another cool one coming up though... "Dante's High School Inferno!" sounds interesting... I'm going.

Poems on a Boring Math Class

ageless

I am ageless, like the water that brings life, like the air that serves breath, like the earth that holds firm, like the fire that consumes all. I am all these things. I am eternal.

I am ageless, as my hand is cast in stone, or passed on through by ink, or by sweet songs that bards do sing, or purely by virtue of my name. I am by my hands. I am eternal.

limmerick

still now my world is full of song, but i do not sing along, for though the music fills the air, my mind is lost out there somewhere.

Poems on a Boring Math Class.

back after a 3 month sabbatical

Okay, so I haven't had time to update this thing, since as I'm sure you know, we all have problems. This should be a sufficient restart for this thing... It's an essay (in Filipino) entitled "Dapit-hapon sa Ayala." It's about the (sort of apocalyptic) fall of Ayala Center into disuse and decay.

I want to be like him somehow... is that weird... I want to be just like him... I'm like a kid with an idol... I'm so pathetic I know... I just wish I had his courage... his audacity... his blatant frankness... his sensitive insensitivity... sigh...

Daycare/Outreach

Dec 9, 2006 was the day we went on our InTACT class’ exposure trip. I must admit that my initial feelings towards the trip was of general annoyance, but fortunately, by the end of the trip, a new, more powerful feeling had taken over my being… the feeling of sheer contempt. I, with all due respect, unfortunately have to say that I found the trip rather pointless. I will have to applaud the OSCI and the InTACT coordinators for coming up with such a wonderful idea, but of course when ideas aren’t properly put into action, or if ideas are enacted in faultily… well, things like this do happen. We played with kids. That’s exactly what we did. That is ALL we did. Exposures are supposed to be about seeing the reality of an undernourished poverty, and that of a gross state of inequality. It’s about peeking into the lives of those who are hidden behind colorful facades. It’s about how these people feel, about seeing what is wrong in our society. What do we do instead? We peek into the lives of the percentage of the population where inequality is lowest… in children… By the end of the day, I was disgusted… “How did you find the activity?” “It was a fun learning experience!” Exposures shouldn’t be fun… they are supposed to be gross… disturbing…

Finally....

updating...

I went to the guidance office to get my personality test results... INTJ... 3 years ago, I took the same test, and the results were ESTJ... when I told the guidance person that my results of 3 years back were ESTJ, he said that it was a tremendous shift, beause my I, which is introvertedness was at 51... which is really high for intovertedness... what could have caused it... hmmm... I haven't recieved my results for the MMPI and TIT yet, but I'm looking forward to the results (tomorrow na! yay!) anyway... I noticed something on the LRT.... a sign in the LRT states that "the LRT is our property. Please keep it free from vandals." Go figure... I thought the Vandals have been extinct for almost 800 years... ANother weird one was "Please do not bring animals, pets, or livestock." Okay... so pets and livestock aren't animals na pala.... yesz.... Also, I discovered a new morning habit. I now listen to Magic 89.9's "Good Times with Mo Twister" from 6am to 9am everyday (or at least from 6am to 730am nyahahaha) It's sooooo funny! I SWEAR!!!!

Last (when was that) Sanny, Thea, and I met at Starbucks, and we finally got to catch up on each other :) it was fun... I MISS YOU GUYS!!!! Thea! may kasalanan ka nanaman sa mundo!

Many Kwento

Saturday... we went to watch Cue Drama Club's "The Producers" my cousins played lead roles :p anyway... It personified LSGH... at least in my opinion... half are guy, half those who aren't gay feign gayness, and the rest are boys. Except for the 2 exceptional men in every batch. I'm mean no!? HAHAHAHAHAHA Anyway... it was really good... If you could watch it (you can't. playdates are over.) I would push for your watching it... Oh! and I found this really good voiced girl who LOOKED EXACLY LIKE JEDDY!!!! OMG! I thought I was seeing things! Jeddy, kamukha mo talaga, I swear!!

Sunday... had a foot spa (oh, malinis na paa ko) It was really wow.... try the place out! It's my mom's spa... It's called Village Spa (Basement, Collonade Residences, C. Palanca St., Legaspi Village, Makati City!)

Monday... My Filipino essay was picked as an exhibition essay during Fil class... such an honor... It's about you DLSU people, and how Mc Do Taft (being a syllogism of DLSU) will forever be a part of me (awww... *cry here*)... what else... I discovered Bob Ong and I have something in common... We are both perpetually annoyed.

:)

okay, anger's gone.

Annoyance, Tolerance, and Rage

At approximately 10:00, I went to the English department at Dela Costa Hall. I asked the secretary if I could change my Lit14 (intro to poetry and drama) class to a later time, so that I could change my Ma12 (modern mathematics II) from a TH(or TTh in 'teneo terms) to the MWF 830-930 class (which is occupied by my Lit14 class.) The secretary told me to wait for the department chair, who arrives at 11:30... My classes were off at 9:30, so you can imagine my annoyance when she told me to wait a 1.5 hour period... Anyway... returned 11:30, and the dept. chair had me wait 'til 12! I still had to go to the Math dept. to withraw from my Ma12 class, but the dept. closes at 12 because of lunch break, and there's a faculty symposium at 1:30, so office won't resume until Monday! When I finally spoke to the dept. chair... she was nice enough to explain why she couldn't transfer my lit class, but I explained that if I am to go to school on Thursdays, I'd have to be here at 6:30 because the car's off the road... (My classes start at 1230 pa) she then said... "spend your extra time doing library work." PUTANG INA!!!! THAT IS THE SINGLE, MOST INSENSITIVE THING I HAVE EVER HEARD FROM A PROFESSOR! Surely, she meant well, but confining me to 6 hours of library work is the single most desperate and most insensitive thing I have ever heard of! All she has to do is ask one professor if he/she can buffer in 1 person! She doesn't want to because they'll COMPLAIN! SHE'S THE DEPARTMENT HEAD!!!!!!!! So all in... I WASTED HALF MY DAY CHASING THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT, JUST FOR THEM TO RIDICULE ME, THEN SAY NO!!! I had a plan B... which was to drop Ma12 and take Economics instead, but because of that whole fiasco with the English dept, I decided to just f*ck it and bicker about it all semester... I'll just continue taking my math, but I'll LOATHE every minute of it, and I'll also RUE THE WHOLE ENGLISH PROGRAM OF THIS F*CKING ENGLISH PRIMA DONNA SCHOOL! YOU GUYS FEEL AS IF YOU CAN IGNORE A STUDENT BECAUSE YOU "WRITE" AND HAVE "DR." BESIDE YOUR NAMES!?!?! THEN YOU DARE CONDEMN ME TO 6 HOURS OF LIBRARY WORK!?!?!?! WHAT HAVE YOU WRITTEN FOR? THE "LOYOLA SCHOOLS REVIEW?" F*CK THAT! Other Odd Thoughts

I'm assuming my audience knows what a stigmata is. If any of you readers out there (however few you are) don't know about stigmatas, then how the hell were you able to survive reading my blog? Anyway... thinking of stigmatas, I used my hand to comb through my hair, and I discovered that the "ACET disease" is back again... my hair is falling off... again... It's really no biggie, since I have the thickest locks in the world, but it also brought the thought of repetitive phenomena, without knowing the cause, nor how the phenomena begins, ends, or why it reappears at certain points in time... Isn't that the most annoying feeling in the world? uncertainty I mean... just another odd thought....

Hi Thea!!!

"But It's Better If You Do"

Now I'm of consenting age to be forgetting you in a cabaret.Somewhere downtown where a burlesque queen may even ask my nameAs she sheds her skin on stageI'm seated and sweating to a dance song on the club's P.A.The strip joint veteran sits two awaySmirking between dignified sips of his dignified peach and lime daiquiriAnd isn't this exactly where you'd like meI'm exactly where you'd like me, you knowPraying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivetyOh, isn't this exactly where you'd like meI'm exactly where you'd like me, you knowPraying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivetyBut, but I'm afraid that IWell, I may have faked it And I wouldn't be caught dead in this placeWell, I'm afraid that IWell, that's right, well I may have faked it And I wouldn't be caught dead in this placeAnd isn't this exactly where you'd like meI'm exactly where you'd like me, you knowPraying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivetyOh, isn't this exactly where you'd like meI'm exactly where you'd like me, you knowPraying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivetyWell, I'm afraid that IWell, I may have faked it And I wouldn't be caught dead in this placeWell, I'm afraid that IWell, that's right, well I may have faked it And I wouldn't be caught dead in this placeAnd isn't this exactly where you'd like meI'm exactly where you'd like me, you knowPraying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivetyOh, isn't this exactly where you'd like meI'm exactly where you'd like me, you knowPraying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivetyPraying for love and paying in naivetyPraying for love and paying in naivety, oh

Okay...

I have kwento... as most of you would know, I am probably the least "active" person in the world... I'm also very unfamilliar with things and events somehow connected to "that thing..." even simple insinuation can get me in a daze... my point... this is a kind of survey thing... I know this might sound weird, but does my "Tagged" picture make me look cute? Are you laughing right now, or do you have one of those disgusted looks on your face... anyway... 2 people... dirty old men... invited be to be their contact in "Tagged." when I checked their profiles, their friends were all what Fionna & Thea would consider "hot." It was obvious that he was collecting "hot" friends. I'm not hot. I'll "read" you the message of one of the guys... anyway... It's just really freaky... I'm not kidding about this... "wis we can be friends. i'm in china right now and be there on dec 30. hope to see u then. pls give me your cp number. thanks" Another weird event was that the second person somehow found my YM add, then he said... agrh... just read our conversation... he initially invited me to view his webcam... "mikabuts (11/5/2006 9:51:30 PM): uh? do i know you? m_safi077 (11/5/2006 9:51:53 PM): maybe i checked his webcam... mikabuts (11/5/2006 9:52:17 PM): no i dont." sabay close YM window... weird lang talaga... are you guys experiencing this on "Tagged"?

THES-QS

This is one of those bato bato sa langit sort of things...

Kat introduced me to the THES-QS Global University Rankings 2006 yesterday. As most of you would know, the results are a relief, mainly because four of our Philippine universities made it to the top 500. What surprised me though is that DLSU came 100 places higher than AdMU. I know that I begin the whole thought with a premeditated bias, but indulge me... I dug deeper as to root the cause of such a clear anomaly (plus certain people have been bugging me about it... not Kat btw) and my search led to to find certain anomalies in the rankings... As you will find on the website, the rankings are based on certain predetermined factors, which will serve as score points for each university. The percentage division of criteria is as follows:

Criteria Indicator Brief Description Weight* Research Quality Peer Review Composite score drawn from peer review (which is divided into five subject areas). 3,703 responses. 40% Citations per Faculty Score based on research performance factored against the size of the research body 20% Graduate Employability Recruiter Review Score based on responses to recruiter survey. 738 responses 10% International Outlook International Faculty Score based on proportion of international faculty 5% International Students Score based on proportion of international students 5% Teaching Quality Student Faculty Score based on student/faculty ratio 20%

Here is where it becomes problematic... I have no actual qualms with the methodology, but the application looks a bit anomalous. We take for example DLSU:

School Profile School Name De La Salle University Country Philippines Website http://www.dlsu.edu.ph/ School Description Guided by its mission to be at the forefront of Catholic education in the teaching, research and community service fields, De La Salle University has six (6) colleges: Business and Economics, Computer Studies, Education, Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Science that mold holistic individuals. Each college has specific target plans which guide them in designing programs for each specialization. Faculties are comprised of practitioners in their industries which keep them updated with the latest trends. Most are also required to pursue postgraduate studies. Aside from lectures, the skills and knowledge of the students are improved time and again through research and seminars. To strengthen comprehension of major subjects, be it in the sciences or liberal arts, lectures are offered alongside laboratory courses. This way, students can see the practical application of the theories they learn and have hands-on practices. The University also offers master's, doctorate, diploma and certificate courses. In these programs, curricula lean toward enhancing research, managerial and teaching competencies. Most courses are designed to train individuals who are professionally adept, perceptive to the country's needs and can provide expert solutions in response.Towards the end of the students' program, in both the bachelor and postgraduate level, they are required to undergo on-the-job training activities, take a comprehensive examination and/or submit a feasibility/thesis paper to consolidate knowledge gained and propose courses of action that will improve existing ways and tools in their professions. This is the data used by the THES-QS. The number of students is supposedly 10,000 flat. That is obviously impossible. If I remember correctly, my CLA freshman batch in DLSU contained 800+ freshmen, and CLA is only the second largest college in DLSU. If we take that into factor, the presumption that there are only 10,000 students (undergraduate AND postgraduate) is a sheer impossibility! The student teacher ratio is 1:13!? Preposterous! This already counts as 20% of the score! Another anomalous finding is that of “Graduate Employability.” This is factored from recruiter surveys, but NUMBER OF STUDENTS is taken into account! That’s another anomalous 10%! tsk tsk... We take into account another school:

School Profile School Name University of Santo Tomas Country Philippines Website http://www.ust.edu.ph/ School Description Known as the Catholic University of the Philippines, the almost four-century old University of Santo Tomas draws inspiration from the teachings and philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Angelic doctor and patron saint of Catholic schools. The Campus of the University of Santo Tomas stands out like well crafted sparkling jewelry in the city long marred by ecological ugliness, spawned by human neglect. The almost 400-year old university is the oldest in Asia and in student population, the largest Catholic University in the world located in one campus. In some ways, the campus lays bare the soul of this venerable institution. The UST campus exudes history and culture, a quest for knowledge and a love for God.Sprawled in an almost perfect square of twenty two hectares, the UST campus is boxed in by España Street on its front lawn, Governor Forbes (now Arsenio Lacson) St. on its northern flank, P.Noval on its south, and Dapitan St. on the rear. can you see the contradiction here? the University of Santo Tomas is supposedly the largest Catholic University in the world population wise. It is VERY doubtful they have only 12,000 students in undergraduate AND graduate programs. From what I know they have more than 20,000 students in undergrad alone... see 20,000, that’s already 166% of the supposed total population of UST! After everything I’ve seen, the verdict is: due to certain anomalies in data, this rating cannot be entirely trusted. If you’re thinking that I’m doing this because I’m bitter... yeah, but It's obvious that these anomalies exist, and they obviously cloud our judgment. This list will forever (until the next one comes out) be cited as a qualifier by students, faculty, and lumni alike. How can we ever trust it's integrity? Again... the main point of all this is a question: HOW CAN WE TRUST THE INTEGRITY OF THIS RATING

School Profile School Name Ateneo de Manila University Country Philippines Website http://www.ateneo.net/ School Description To understand the soul of the Ateneo de Manila University -- what shaped it and where it came from, where it is going and where it can take you -- it is essential to understand its motto, Lux in Domino, or "Light in the Lord."From the letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians (5:8), these words capture the spirit of a way of life which the Ateneo holds up to her sons and daughters as their best contribution to the work by which God transforms the world. To be "light in the Lord" in all fullness demands moving insistently and deliberately towards God as the center of a person's life, identifying the issues that such a centering poses, and then moving out to the world to find ever new ways of constructing the edifice, cultivating the garden, painting the masterpiece, that God is unfolding in one's life.It is a call to BE that light of the Lord in the world. The Ateneo de Manila University celebrates its 145th anniversary and 145 years of the return of Jesuit Education to the Philippines on December 10, 2004. December also begins the 5-year countdown to the Ateneo’s 150th anniversary, its sesquicentennial, in 2009.The university begins preparations for its sesquicentennial by returning to its roots: by remembering the Ateneo’s history and celebrating the things that make the school distinctly Atenean: what we cherish, what we fight for, what we believe. “Feeling Augustinians”

I remember during my senior year of high school in Colegio San Agustin- Makati, I was chosen as the class representative for the St. Augustine Impromptu Speaking Contest. I failed miserably to achieve my desired end, but I did learn something... never read your El Filibusterismo before an English speaking contest... anyway... my point... the question given to us was, “St. Augustine has many titles. He is known as the Greatest Doctor of the Church, the Holiest of the Wise, and the Wisest of the Holy, the Eagle of Hippo, a Barkada Man, and others. What other titles can you give him?” That’s not verbatim, but it contains the main gist... The answer I gave was that Saint Augustine is also the “Saint of Changes.” This is because he practically morphed from horny happy boy (he would’ve been the boy who impregnates the school bitch, and likes to drag race at night at Marcos Highway, yet loves to read and write, and is a consistent honor student...) to holy genius man. Anyway... I argued my point for five minutes, then suddenly muttered “kung datapwat...” super ouch. Again... what’s my point? Ah... It’s that recently I’ve been rethinking the little tinge of bitterness I have always felt towards my high school, and I’ve realized that it really isn’t the teachers that called me and my friends “bitches,” or “feeling magaling,” or “unorthodox and lazy” that made me feel bad, nor is it the administration which was either too conservative or too callous, nor is it the faulty political system, topped of by an absolutely powerless student government, but rather it’s the absolute lack of proper Augustinian pride instilled into us.

Augustinians are popularly known as the nicest guys on earth. From many various testaments of people from practically all universities one can find an Augustinian, we have been voted “Nice Guy School of the Century.” Is this necessarily a good thing? When I took a survey of what a few of the multitude of Augustinians I know liked most about dear old Alma Mater, most of the replies either had something to do with Glorietta, or with the generally “Happy” environment of the school, which fosters camaraderie, etcetera etcetera. When I asked what are they most proud of, being an Augustinian, most again made reference to Augustinians being nice guys. Seems as if everyone forgot the title bestowed upon us... AUGUSTINIANS. We were founded under one of the most influential Catholic orders in the world. We get our name from the great St. Augustine. We as Augustinians are all so proud of this, yet what do we truly know of him? He has a pious mother and a pagan father. His sister became an abbess. He had a son, who died in his youth, and a live in partner whom he wasn’t sure he loved. His best friend’s death left a horrible scar upon his heart. He heard a voice telling him to “take and read.” These are some of the things I have learned of our patron, and most of practically all we have been taught in relation to St. Augustine is along this line... it’s all trivia. We treat him as if he were Kris Aquino. We know ten of his sayings, which we repeat over and over again, although he has volumes full, which he couldn’t even finish editing in his lifetime. How can we even consider ourselves Augustinians... we know NOTHING of what is important to him, NOTHING of what he taught in depth, NOTHING of his wisdom, NOTHING of his philosophy, NOTHING of his love of God. His wisdom is something we should be proud of, yet CSA has never really taught us more than what can be scratched from the surface. This was my greatest disappointment. In kindergarden, Ms. Atienza told me that St. Augustine would help us talk to God. I asked for his intercession a million times, yet... I know nothing about him. I feel like such an ingrate. I also know nothing of the order he established. I know nothing of what they do, and nothing of what they have done. I know nothing about the many saints of the order, and the truly inspiring stories behind each saint. I know nothing of the spirituality wherein the order is based. The Holy Scripture as a primary place of encountering God Discovering God in Community Interiority Promotion of Justice, Unity, Harmony, Peace and Reconciliation Apostolic Service I have never known these as the foundations of my spirituality. They were taught, surely, but they were never highlighted. These foundations, and the various gifts given to us by our Augustinian forefathers and our father Augustine, in form of word, or deed. All of these serve as inspirations. They serve to ignite our flames to uphold the Augustinian values passed on by our patron, “Virtus et Scientia.”

If I could turn back time, and return to the time of the Impromptu Speaking Contest, I would change my answer. Instead of portraying Augustine as the “Saint of Changes,” I would say that he is the “Saint that Augustinians will Never Truly Know.” It’s ironic isn’t it?

its the longest f*cking essay i have written... and it's in f*cking tagalog!

Nah... the next literary piece will be the 10 page paper I wote for Filipino... anyway... finals are over... I haven't slept in days... literally... someday is today

(4 hours later)

(phone rings) (phone rings) (phone rings) (phone rings)

(phone rings) (phone rings) (phone rings) (phone rings)

Dammit! Where the hell are they?

end.

is someday today?

Hey! Wait up! Huh? Oh... Hi... You said we'd meet today, so we will. I need the conversation. Huh? Ah.. Alright... Where to then? The Coffee shop we were at yesterday. (Stunned) Okay...

(sips coffee) There's something I want to tell you... Yeah? (Phone rings) Oh, wait... Hello? (on phone) Have you told him yet? (in whispers) No, but you're ruining it.... oh! well, HURRY IT UP! you've waited long enough! (phone out) (puts phone down) Who was it? Your friend... Oh... do you know that he's been really distant to me lately... after I told him that I liked... (rush of consciousness... short pause) COFFEE! I like coffee too (smiles) (smiles) what coffee's your favorite? I've always liked tall rich mocha blends. I like them hot. (winks) (smiles weakly, then gives a faint huh!) Do you know what kind of coffee I like? What? You.

It's just that... maybe someday.

(sips coffee) ... what was it you wanted to tell me? i don't know anymore... you were always so articulate. Words have never escaped you... even more so... they have imprisoned me. So much is to be said... but the consequences that lie with each breath, each syllable uttered... there is to much to lose. you have never worried of the consequences before... as long as you think it's right, you'll say it... i don't think this is right... it's irrational, and a pain to my being. what is this thing that is reason for your being so... different... one of life's most painful secrets... yet still one of it's greatest joys. isn't it frightening though... imagine me... going through the stages of loss without actually losing... yet... what is it you fear you'll lose? you... i've always been here, and i probably always will. you should know that. i do... then what's your cause of worry? i don't want you to be there... what?... i don't want you beside me... being there... listening to me... have i not been a good friend? tell me whats wrong! no... you've been perfect... too perfect... then... i have to go... i'll see you tomorrow then. i thought you didn't want to see me anymore? i never said that... anyway, i'll see you tomorrow. okay... see you then. (leaves) (dials a number on cellphone) i cant understand him! why? he seems no not want to be friends anymore, but doesn't tell me why... and yet he also tells me he's afraid of losing me. so you're not friends anymore? what? no... we still are... it's weird... don't ask.. why do you put up with him anyway!? coz' i love that sonovabitch... yeah. i know.

The BIG Multitopicpost

Okay! It's time to update...

AdMu Tolerance

If I remember correctly, only Fionna and I were present when Prof. Valbuena gave a make up lecture in Yuchengco. I remember because the only reason we went was bacause Fi wanted to watch her monkey's presentation... Anyway... miss Leah shared her general theory on tolerance with us, that usually agroup with higher socio-economical, or political standing... or even those who are more powerful... have a greater threshold for hurt and insult. Tolerance is the name of the game... The muslims react harshly when their religion is challenged, but Catholics laugh at jokes on Catholicism... African Americans are hurt by any little insinuative remark... White americans care about snot if you insult them... We Filipinos get outragedwhen someone talksagainst us... the Americans don't care... no it's not nationalism... it's tolerance. Anyway, although during the AdMU UST game 3, and immediately after, the Ateneans showed their jologs side by shouting the vilest cuss remarks against the tigers... it did mellow down after a day or so... when we convinced ourselves that they would be cleaning our desks someday ( MWAHAHAHAHA so elitist...) Im kidding.... no, but they did calm down... what of tolerance... according to the theory, UST should be tolerant... yet, when i rode the LRT after the game... theUST people were taunting about 5 of us Ateneans in a huddle at the end of the train.... SO MUCH FOR TOLERANCE OF THE POWERFUL. The tigers made me cry... Im hurt...

Apathy and the ipod

In a world full of wars, bloodshed, and crying... there is only one escape... a new world... which fits exactly your idea of a perfect world... it's all there... in your ipod. :) The ipod and the apathetic youth, a match made in heaven...

Four Days of Fasting

It's been four days without electricity... anyway... what has happened in those four days... It has been a while since I have updated, but let me say that today would be the perfect time to start updating...

Wednesday

My day went by uneventful, except that after my last class, I spent an hour under the freezing rain, waiting for a taxi to bring me to gateway. I needed to buy chocolates for the Ice Cream making activity we were going to have in Chemlab (Ch8). On the way to gateway, I caught wind of the news that there were no classes the next day. I bought chocolates anyway... since if ever there really were no classes... at least I'd have myself some chocolate. I wanted to watch "Twilight Dancers" while I was there, but the movie schedule just didn't fit mine... I ride the LRT2-LRT home, and affirm that there are no classes the next day... I eat my chocolate, then sleep.

Thursday

I wake up, and the wind is howling like crazy... I spent the morning panicking over the loss of electricity... I spent the afternoon cursing meralco... and eating the remainder of my chocolate...

Friday

We went to my cousin's house in Marikina (bordering on QC). The way there was COOL!!!!!! All those fallen trees... There was even this fallen bilboard which destroyed the top floor of the Honda building along EDSA... I can just imagine how much devastation there was... I wished that the stupid TV-bilboard of Makati (the one that's too bright) had been devastated by storm... but it stood as bright and annoying as ever... (FuYu BINAY!!!!) We practically spent the day bumming out there, although electricity was out as well... That evening, I had decided to stay over at their house, since I had a required movie to watch in the Ateneo the next day. My cousins taught me how to play poker... Sleeping there was a big mistake... although I got to spend a LOT of quality time with my cuzzies, and I did enjoy every waking moment of my stay there... I COULDN'T SLEEP A WINK! I slept at 430... woke up at 700... anyway... It was fun...

Saturday

Still no damn light... Ate Gayl brought me to the Ateneo that morning... It was really sad in the Ateneo... all those poor trees... there were branches everywhere!!! It was a battlefield post-battle. My english class watched "The Piano Teacher" as per our class movie critique assignment. The film was wonderful! It was an accurate psychological profile of a BDSM lover... As my professor said, although nothing vulgar was seen, the dialouge and the insinuated scenes gave shivers down... something... The acting was superb as well... There is no doubt the main actors, who played the main characters, won the best actor and actress award at the 2001 Cannes. After the movie, I walked around and saw hundreds of people in Ateneo shirts, or wearing Ateneo hats, getting ready for the game at 400 PM. Instead of watching though, I decided to go back to my cousins' house. Ate Aisa brought me to shopwise to buy undies, since mom ran out of gas, and there was no diesel in any of the gas stations near the house. That meant I had to stay another day in my cousins' house... also since the LRT wasn't working. That evening... I discovered that the LRT was working... so I decided to go home... my uncle forced my twin cousins to bring me home... I told them to drop me off at Gateway instead, so they could just continue on to Eastwood. It was embarassing to have them bring me home yet, since they had some of their LSGH friends with them in the car... It was then I found out what boy's nights out are like... I have never been in a car with only teenage boys inside, so this was a first... It was fun... and boisterous... full of rap... RnB... classical?! My cousins and their friends have a refined taste... anyway... I got home safely... and... THERE WAS STILL NO ELECTRICITY!!!! DAMN MERALCO!!!!!

Sunday

nothing much... skipped mass... got electricity back... am happy... :p kudos guys...

Jobz

Alternate Title: "Ole, ole!"

Firstly... someone offered me a job... I was sitting on the steps of greenbelt 1, mumbling to myself because my mother was taking so long, when a man in long sleeves came to me and asked we if I was looking for a job... he went on to explain that a certain call center needed people, and he asked whether I was interested... that was flattering... in a way...

Just to Make Them Stop...

"Have you ever seen your face in a mirror, there's a smile, but inside you're just a mess...You feel far from good, need to hide, 'cos they'd never understand. Have you ever had this wish of being somewhere else, to let go of your disguise, all your worries too, and from that moment, then you see things clear.

I'm okay, I really am now. Just needed some time, to figure things out. Not telling lies, I'll be honest with you. Still we don't know what's yet to come."

-Lene Martin "Disguise"

I'm just really depressed... I feel so alone... I have new "friends," but we're so numerous, it's like I know nothing about them... and I hate not knowing "friends." I miss you guys... bad.

"I don't care what they say, I'm loving you anyway..."

alternate post title: Androgyny

Yes! Yet another MTP, since I really have veeeerrrrry little time for privolities.

How can I walk away? I don't care what they say! I'm loving you anyway...

OMG... this song has been stuck in head for days!!! Steps of all bands!!! STEPS!!! Naalala ko nanaman si she who must never be named e... haaay nako... mag 3 years na kami sa January :p.

Androgyny

I have a blockmate... with a weird experiment... he's gonna try to be as androgynous as possible... He grew his hair, so that he'd look neither male nor female... and has an androgynous attitude already... hmm... lalang... Ateneans are weird.

What's (yet) Another Day

Alternative post title: "Himas"

This is gonna be another MTP (multi topic post) kasi I really don't have much time to update. Agggh... Atenean life is... weird...

Congrats Team Ateneo!

Congrats! You are so galing! NATALO KAYO NG UST!!!! ANO BA YAN!!!! Unang game nyo vs UST nanalo kayo by 20+ points... ngaun... NATALO KAYO!!!! as Yeng loves to say... BADIIIING!!!!!!!!

Ang Bago Kong Block

TR ang pangalan namin... (as in Transferees) grabe... they're all so nice... ang gulo nga lang, kasi wala na silang ginawa kundi mag baraha... HAHAHA... as in... it's either nagaaral kami, o nagbabaraha... may mga times panga mah-jong pa linalaro nila! MAH-JONG!!! Pero anyway... medjo magkakakilala na kaming lahat... and we respect each other will no bias, nor pre existing prejudice... (pero pumasa ako last year ha... di ako bagsak sa ACET.)

Lebanon and the Oilspill

Remember I told you about the guy who was crying on a bench, because of the crisis in Lebanon? Ateneans are weird... I found another guy who was absolutely raving... he was pissed. He was practically shouting at this friends... because of the Guimaras oilspill... okay... so anyway... They said hair can help out the oilspill, (can it nga ba) and that Reyes haircutters collects hair for the oilspill (do they nga ba)... so some of my Atenean friends and I are going to have our hair cut for the oilspill... as in shave... kahit hindi naman... anyway... maybe you LaSallian people (God and Country...) can help out too! WE NEED TO ACT! somehow... this is one of the only ways I can think of...

Our Chem is PoPpInN!!!!

Chemlab!!!!! (Ch8 samin) It's SOOOO fun I swear! last week, we had the displacement reaction experiment... involving gasses, Hologens, and metals. I swear... As in may slight explosions... yung mga cork namin, tumatalsik talsik... may mga violent color changes... ANG SAYA!!!! Its like Chem lab in the movies... pero super nerd na namin... kasi "How funny naman the Magnesium Nitrate! It released so much displaced Hydrogen, It made a mild explotion w/ matching exothermic heat change!" HAHAHA actual quote yan!

Some Things...

Some things just make more sense than others... Take religion for example. I can't understand why I believe in what I believe in... but there are so many willing to die for their faith... What do they see that I don't see? What do they understand that I can't grasp? Over a span of 2000 years, Christ's name has been, and still may be the single most powerful driving force in this world... Great men and women have offered the one thing they actually own for God... they have sacrificed their life. Whether in form of live-long devotion, or by sacrificing their lives for Christ or for others, in the light of Christ.

The Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen.

Although the prayer is not actually attributed to St. Francis of Assisi, it does in a way put into writing everything that St. Francis believed in... "Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace" The prayer is began by giving yourself wholeheartedly to God... You give up the one thing you value most: your life, so that you may serve as a servant of God's will to others... "grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; " He is willing to take the harshness, the criticism, the pains, the pseudo slings and arrows of being God's chosen, so that he may cease to criticize, but rather understand. So that he would heal wounds, although he himself is wounded. He wants to love unconditionally, as God loves... All this, so that he can show gratitude to God... Modern Logic would call it insane... I find it sort of romantic in a sense... even transcendent.

Prayer for Generosity
by St. Ignatius of Loyola

Lord Jesus, teach me to be generous;
teach me to serve you as you deserve,
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to seek reward,
except that of knowing that I do your will. Amen.

It is in a way Illogical (in a modern sense) to lift oneself up to a creator... The conservatives would say that people do this because they want to save their souls from hell. So, is it just fear of damnation that leads Christians to do "God's will?" That's sort of selfish... but This certain prayer, by everyone's favorite St. Ignatius, shows how much he was willing to give, or how much he was willing to learn, from God... and it's not because he's afraid of hell, but rather because... he wants to do God's will... "to labor and not to seek reward, except that of knowing that I do your will." This is a true offering of one's self... no sense... no reward... although Psychologically man ALWAYS needs a reward... He isn't trying to buy his way into heaven... he just wants to be selfless... thats just weird...

Domine Iesu, Noverim me (Lord Jesus, Let Me Know Myself)

Written by St. Augustine; (354-430) Lord Jesus, let me know myself and know Thee,

And desire nothing save only Thee.
Let me hate myself and love Thee.
Let me do everything for the sake of Thee.
Let me humble myself and exalt Thee.
Let me think of nothing except Thee.
Let me die to myself and live in Thee.
Let me accept whatever happens as from Thee.
Let me banish self and follow Thee,
And ever desire to follow Thee.
Let me fly from myself and take refuge in Thee,
That I may deserve to be defended by Thee.
Let me fear for myself, let me fear Thee,
And let me be among those who are chosen by Thee.
Let me distrust myself and put my trust in Thee.
Let me be willing to obey for the sake of Thee.
Let me cling to nothing save only to Thee,
And let me be poor because of Thee.
Look upon me, that I may love Thee.
Call me that I may see Thee,
And for ever enjoy Thee.
Amen.

"Look upon me, that I may love Thee. Call me that I may see Thee, And for ever enjoy Thee." Magical, how even the "wisest of the holy, and the holiest of the wise" (saying he is a wise man) would give so much up, because he read 1 passage... He gave his life up, and found meaning in a mysterious being... It's like falling in love with a UFO... except, these saints gave up literally everything... so that they may love others. Now here's the choice... do I follow blindly now, so that I may have a chance to see later, or am I too unsure to continue? Discernment's over... I have to decide someday... how about you guys... what do you guys choose to believe in?

What's Another Day

Alternate Post Title: "6 stories"

Okay... This'll be a doozy, since... I haven't updated in sooooo long. I'm reviving the MTP (Multi Topic Post) which I haven't done In a LOOONG time. First on my agenda... is... SORRY TALAGA!!!!! Next, get well soon para kay Sanny, since may Typhoid parin siya... lets all pray for her quick recovery.

Commuting with your ears plugged

I discovered something very useful today... Commuting for 1.5 hours, including walking 3 Kms to school, although is generally a hellish experience... can be somewhat alleviated, IF you have something plugging up your ears... Yes folks... I've discovered the one BEST use for an mp3 player... to keep your ears plugged while you commute... God created mp3 players to sooth worn commuting souls. Or maybe the devil created it to lure us into a false sense of comfort, maybe even a false sense of musical NEED... doesn't matter... It keeps my mind off the hellish commute hours.

Thief Thief

Ahaha. When I got out of the Katipunan Station today, a small crowd was gathered around a man, who was belly down on the floor, with his hands above his head. It was really awkward, kasi there was another man, who had one foot on the first man's back, and had a gun pointed at the first man's head. I then discovered that the first man was a thief. I had never seen a thief encounter before, so naturally I made uzi uzi there. :p The thief was trembling talaga... he was crying at one point I believe... and we just watched him there... To those who watched the movie "The Gathering" Which is about the crowd who watched Jesus die on the cross... they did nothing but stare, and so as a curse, they were to spend eternity watching the misfortunes of man. Wala lang. Just thought about the movie... I was just excited to see the Police at work.

Nationalism is Weird

They play the Lupang Hinirang every 8:30 AM in Ateneo... pero you can barely hear it... so by the time we stand up, all we hear is... "ang mamatay ng dahil sayo!!!" So medjo sayang pagtayo namin... anyway... Nationalism is weird, kasi it requires so much of the people, yet... it's kinda ethnocentric and demeaning to other nationalities... lalang... Nationalism as a hinderance to globalization (ano Anjo, payag ka jan!?) Just thinking out loud...

Bible Study

Last Friday... Tina invited me to lunch in Cervini Cafeteria (which is kinda layo from the Loyola Schools mind you.) When I arrived, she waited 10 minutes, then left for her Physical Therapy Session... and kinda demanded me to stay in Cervini with one of her friends... We got along well (hahaha Anime freaks one and all..) When suddenly, a group of Conyotique sorta people started arriving... then Tina's friend started introducing me to everyone... I felt awkward na... kasi I thought I was intruding into Tina's friends' barkada... so as I was about to leave, one of them said: "Okay guys, lets begin! Turn your Bibles to Mark 10, verse 12." My eyes widened like "What the Fa!?!?!" Bible Study group pala... medjo Protestant Bible group at that.. but I stayed on... and found it to be... uplifting... This isn't an org or anything. This is just a bunch of students who came together to read and understand the Bible... Cool... so I've decided to join them every Friday from now on :p. Thanks Lord... for the surprise... such an uplifting, and wonderful surprise :).

Cats!

They're killing ALL the cats in Ateneo. That's because some rich Be-atch got bitten. It probably wasn't even the cat's fault... cat's don't bite unless you provoke them. Our pastor nga in our bible study said that whoever that be-atch was, he'd hit her with the word of God! (It's a farce... he meant hitting her with God's word, and with a literal thich, leather bound bible.) Anyway... as a personal form of protest, I went around school with a gigantic sign on my chest bearing the words, "Meow Meow." It was kinda a sucess, since a lot of people kinda joined my cause, or became aware of the injustices against Ateneo's cat population! Human or no human, those cats are ateneans too!!!!

Philosopher Gregory House (M.D.)

Something struck me when I watched House season 2...
House: "The Universe ALWAYS settles the score."
Cuddy: "Really?"
House: "No, but it should."
That's so true isn't it...
